Maritime Transport has been named Net Zero Champion at the East Suffolk Business Awards 2025, held at the Ivy House Country Hotel in Lowestoft on Thursday 6th November and hosted by the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.
Celebrating the success, innovation, and community contribution of businesses across the region, the East Suffolk Business
Awards bring together organisations of all sizes to recognise those making a positive impact on the local economy.
The awards shine a spotlight on the achievements of East Suffolk’s business community, from emerging enterprises
to established industry leaders, and highlight the individuals and teams driving that success.
Sponsored by East Suffolk Council, the Net Zero Champions Award was presented to Maritime in recognition of its
commitment to reducing emissions across the supply chain. The Company is delivering one of the logistics
sector’s most ambitious decarbonisation strategies, driving modal shift through major investment in rail
expansion, alongside a range of on-site environmental initiatives including landfill diversion, network-wide
recycling initiatives, and solar power generation. Maritime’s zero-emission road division, Maritime ZERO,
will see more than 50 battery-electric trucks introduced to its fleet over the next 12 months, supported
by one of the UK’s largest privately-operated HGV charging networks.
John Williams, Group Executive Chairman, Maritime Transport:
‘Receiving this award from the Suffolk Chamber
of Commerce is a great acknowledgement of the work our teams are doing to deliver our sustainability
ambitions. We’ve made remarkable progress this year through Maritime ZERO and the government-backed
Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator. We’ve also introduced new rail services connecting
inland terminals with major UK ports and continued to decarbonise our operations at site level. It’s
a privilege to see that work recognised.’
John Dugmore, Chief Executive, the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce:
'The Suffolk Chamber East Suffolk Business Awards truly showcase the incredible talent, passion,
and dedication within our local business community. Maritime Transport is a shining example of how
East Suffolk businesses can take practical, ambitious steps towards net zero. Their commitment to
sustainable logistics, from expanding rail freight to rolling out electric HGVs, demonstrates true
leadership within the sector. For 141 years, the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce has been proud to be
the voice of business across Suffolk, connecting, supporting, and celebrating enterprises of every
size and sector. Recognising companies like Maritime Transport shows the positive impact that local
businesses can make, and we look forward to continuing to support and highlight those driving innovation
and sustainability in our region.’
