Maritime renews Poppy Appeal support with fleet display of 1,400 poppies

Posted 02 Nov 2020

The UK’s leading intermodal transport and logistics operator, Maritime Transport Ltd. (Maritime), has once again pledged its support to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal by displaying poppies on its entire vehicle fleet.

The humble, poignant symbol of Remembrance and hope has been fitted to the grille of 1,400 Maritime-liveried tractor units for the duration of November, and will be seen all across UK roads as Maritime proudly supports one of its chosen charities’ biggest fundraising campaigns for the sixth consecutive year.

Following Maritime’s recent acquisition of Wincanton Container Logistics and subsequent fleet expansion, this monumental challenge could not have been achieved without the drivers and staff across the company’s 37-depot network who volunteered on the 31st October and 1st November to simultaneously fix the poppies, a worthy cause held dear by colleagues including serving and ex-service personnel employed by Maritime.

John Williams, Group Executive Chairman at Maritime, stated: ‘Every poppy makes a difference to the lives of our Armed Forces community, and we are immensely proud to be supporting this remarkable appeal again whilst we pay tribute to those who stood shoulder to shoulder to secure our freedom.’

‘The military personnel we employ through our close association with the Career Transition Partnership and various other Armed Forces recruitment schemes are invaluable to our intensive operation, and bring a wealth of experience to their roles within Maritime and the wider industry.’

‘The Legion’s work is more vital than ever, particularly for those with new hardships as a result of the pandemic, and so we hope our fleet will encourage people to stand behind and actively engage with this significant cause.’

‘Without the support of organisations like Maritime, we cannot deliver the life-changing support and welfare services that our Armed Forces community needs and deserves,’ said Mandi Cox-Osborne, Community Fundraiser at the Suffolk Royal British Legion. ‘We are thrilled that Maritime have chosen to support us again, and would like to say a huge thank you for their generous donation and to the drivers and staff involved with the poppy-fitting.’
