Maritime’s fleet expansion continues with 20 new Volvo’s

Posted 07 Nov 2019

Maritime Transport Ltd. (Maritime) has taken delivery of 20 new Volvo FH tractor units, another major investment in a series of recent asset acquisitions to further support its growing customer-base.

The 6x2 pusher axle FH units include Volvo’s latest Euro-6 Step D, 13-litre engine, producing 460hp. Each unit also comprises I-Shift transmissions, fuel optimisation software and dashboard-mounted gear selector switches, along with the latest Volvo RS1344E rear axles with final drive ratios of 2.47:1. To minimise rolling resistance, each unit utilises 315/70 R22.5 Goodyear Ecoplus 2 tyres.

Commenting on the new vehicles, Stuart Wardlaw, Maritime’s Fleet Director, stated: ‘This significant investment in these new tractor units reflects our determination to deliver an unrivalled service to our customers, with the most reliable, durable, eco-friendly vehicles on the road, and the best facilities for our driver workforce. The Volvo’s have already been integrated onto our fleet at several of our depots, and we’re confident they’ll bring great benefits to our operation.’

The FH’s have been specified with Globetrotter cabs; the external sunvisors on them removed and front bumper spoilers added for improved aerodynamic performance. The vehicles also utilise Long Haul Fuel software, and have been specified with gel batteries, clutchable air compressors and variable rate steering pumps. Supplied with a two-year Volvo Blue Service Contract, the vehicles will be retained for five years.

‘Maritime has a fantastic reputation across the UK for the bespoke solutions and service it provides, and so we’re delighted to once again be working with a company that has a similar ethos to ours,’ said Richard Sharples, Fleet Sales Director – UK & Ireland at Volvo Group UK Ltd. ‘We’re extremely proud of these FH units, and pleased they’ll play a large part in enabling Maritime the means to boost its fleet performance and productivity.’
